ABOUT NCANDA-SRI
NCANDA-SRI is located in the Center for Health Sciences, Biosciences Division at SRI International, a non-profit corporation in Menlo Park, California. The Human Sleep Research Program at SRI integrates state-of-the-art measures of central and autonomic nervous systems to understand the role of sleep in supporting normal human development, and how disease states (e.g. alcoholism, obstructive sleep apnea) and changes in physiological status (e.g. reproductive hormone transitions) affect and can be affected by sleep. We have access to the GE-ASL West Brain Imaging Center on campus, allowing us to incorporate MR scanning in our studies. For NCANDA-SRI, we recruited participants from nearby school districts. In addition to the core measures, NCANDA-SRI collaborates on two supplemental studies. We collaborate with NCANDA-Pittsburgh in a laboratory sleep study to examine the effects of development and alcohol use on adolescent sleep architecture. We also collaborate with NCANDA-UCSD to investigate developmental and alcohol use effects on brain function, using a Stroop functional MRI task.
