This statement of Privacy Practices covers our treatment of personal data that we gather when ("you") use the mNCANDA mobile app. We will only use your mNCANDA mobile app data in a manner which is consistent with the informed consent disclosures provided to all consenting participants. NCANDA’s Certificate of Confidentiality was issued to NCANDA by the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA) of the National Institutes of Health.
The app features require that you enter a randomly assigned passcode identifier in order to use them. The app only collects information about your behaviors that you manually enter an submit. No sensor or other data is obtained from your phone. We do collect and separately store a complex token that is unique to your handset, while you are using the app. This data is stored temporarily while you are using the app and is not available to researchers.
The only information that we collect from you that you do not actively submit is whether, and the timing, of when you open the mobile app to check for a cued survey.
None of your responses are stored on your phone by the mobile app. We do not collect information about device manufacturer, device type, os version, device location including country and timezone.
We use your mobile app responses in a manner consistent with how we handle other NCANDA data. Your de-identified responses are collected and packaged with all NCANDA participants’ de-identified data. These de-identified data are shared with NCANDA researchers and researchers approved to receive the NCANDA data.
The mNCANDA mobile app does not share your personal information with third parties.
We have put in place appropriate security measures to prevent your personal data from being accidentally lost, used, or accessed in an unauthorized way, altered, or disclosed. We have established independently reviewed procedures and infrastructure to deal with any suspected personal data breach and will notify you and any applicable regulator of a breach where we are required to do so.
We will only retain your personal data for as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes for which it was collected. De-identified data will be be archived and made accessible for use by researchers as long as the researchers deem necessary.
